
We planted trees, we placed rocks, we had moments of silence and moments of laughter. We remember and love Jack every day.

His NOLS trail name was Jackalope!
I placed my Jack rock at Lake Quannapowitt in Wakefield, MA. It’s near my house and I walk around it multiple times a week. I think Jack would have liked having a little bit of nature in the middle of the suburbs. I say ‘hi’ every time I pass him.

I placed a rock for Jack today at 6500 ft on Cooper Spur Ridge — the Mt. Hood Ridgeline above the spot where Calder and I were married. The sky was bright blue and the wind was whipping up the hill. Cousin Lilly
We planted a tree at the pond up in Castine for Jack a few weeks ago. It’s doing great and when I got to it three whitetails were feeding only a few yards behind it. Been missing him lots today. Clark, Friend

I placed my Jack rock in the arboretum at Colby in Maine. It is such a beautiful location and I often go there because I feel at peace. It helps me understand how much Jack loved nature and how healing it can be. Pardis, Friend

I decided on “Little” Good Harbor creek. A beautiful little corner of the beach with footbridge. This spot just felt right in the end in order to “keep Jack close” during my many & frequent walks. Uncle Peter

I placed my Jack rock under a protected tree at the very top of Hancock Hill in the Blue Hills. It is a special spot with views of the ocean, Boston, and even the mountains of southern NH. Jack would have loved that spot. John and Terri, Friends

We hiked the Tour de Mont Blanc this past September and placed one of Jack's rock's at the border of France and Switzerland with the mountain behind it, a majestic spot where I really sensed Jack's presence. Chuck & Sue, Friends

Today is the 40 day anniversary from Jack’s death. It’s custom in Greek Orthodox culture to have a memorial on 40 days and prepare a wheat berry dish called Koliva. It’s a symbol of resurrection and rebirth with the wheat berries. I made koliva today and am thinking of Jack and all of you. Georgia, Jack NOLS Instructor

I went on a hike up Mount Greylock , the highest peak in Mass, and left Jack’s rock up at the peak. It was foggy today but I made sure to put it where he can face towards home. It felt almost natural to place it in the mountains. Cousin Gracie

We placed a rock that we painted in memory of Jack at Echo Lake in Franconia, NH. The lake is in the midst of the White Mountains where you can see both the lake and mountains. We thought this as a fitting place to honor Jack. Lynda, Mark, Colleen, Kevin and Katelyn, Friends

The stone I am placing I found on Nantucket, Galley Beach. I found it on a sunrise walk, by myself, in August, when I couldn't sleep The stone is smooth. Safe travels Jack. Anne K, Friend

I went to see the sunrise in Plymouth. There is a beautiful spot where whales and seals have found a spot this summer. I made the trip at 5 am to see a beautiful sunrise and toss the stone in Jack’s honor and his love for nature. It was the most peaceful morning. Hugs to you all. XO Cigdem, Friend
A weeping Alaska cedar and Japanese cedar were lovingly planted for Jack in the Louisville Botanical Gardens, where we can go see them often. We miss him very much.
